Is it possible to run both, AEC & Membership Pro ? was created by Lars Behrenroth
I've been following the threads on migration from Valanx's AEC over to Membership Pro and am glued to the screen, hoping this is soon possible.
Until then, would it be possible to keep AEC running for existing members / subscribers until their membership expires or they cancel and have all new subscriptions / signups handled by Membership Pro?
Does anything speak against it?!
I'm looking forward to your answer
Thank you,
Lars

Hi Lars
Yes. That's possible. You can run both the two extensions on the same site

Tuan

I just installed Membership Pro and am going to get some plans going.
Would you possibly know what AEC plugins I need to leave on and which I could turn off?
I really just want the old memberships to run (monthly / annual reoccurring payments via paypal) until they expire or users cancel ..
no new subscriptions should be handled by AEC anymore ..
ty,
Lars

Hi Lars
If so, I think you just need to unpublished the menu item which is linked to AEC to allow subscribers to subscribe via AEC. That should be enough
Also, why don't you migrate data from AEC to Membership Pro and let membership pro handles everything (including existing subscriptions)? Membership Pro has migration script allows migrating data from AEC to Membership Pro

Tuan

All of my paying subscribers are paypal recurring payments. In total I have 50k members, 20k in a free plan (which doesn't do anything really) and only a few hundred paying who are Premium members (added to premium joomla user group)..
I'm watching the other thread on migration but I haven't seen any real life success reports yet
I can do this migration later though, right?!
ty,
Lars

This is similar to my current situation. Did this ever get accomplished?

yeah . pretty straight forward ..
I've installed Membership Pro, created different membership levels and all new sign ups are handled by it ..
AEC is just there and handling the existing (re-occurring) subscriptions until users decide to cancel or expire.
everything's running smooth

Neat, thanks! I'll have to give that a go...
Move the staging site to the domain root, leaving the old AEC there (but invisible to the users) while it keeps sending renewal notices for expirations. Then, direct renewing subscribers to the Membership Pro sign-up page. That should work, unless anyone sees a problem.

I haven't attempted this yet, but once I move the new staging site (that runs Membership Pro) to replace the existing site (that currently runs AEC) are any necessary Joomla or AEC files / folders overwritten? I would think not, but since I'd likely not be able to get an install file for AEC to reinstall it, I need to know.
