It's is a significant new feature to be able to link custom fields to multiple events. It would be much more convenient if a custom field could be linked to a category of events. That is the most common way to use a custom field. All events of a particular type (category) require the same input field.

I just switched to this component hoping *fingers crossed* that this was included in the functionality, and unfortunately it is not.
This would also be nice to have for Coupons, and would make a GREAT filter feature when viewing registrants.

Could you please explain more detail ? You want coupon to be able to assign to category instead of individual event ?

On the original post, I agree having custom fields based on categories would be desirable for the following reasons:
- currently we can choose ALL events or multi-select events. Using All is not practical as many events have different data collection requirements.
- using multi-select is not practical if there are hundreds of events.
- if after creating many many events we need to go back and create more fields, remembering which events should have this is very tedious.
Giving the option to select those events based on the event category makes much more sense.
