In backend 'events' is a column 'order' that should make manual ordering possible. In frontend it doesn't seem to matter what sorting you put in, it sorts only by date. Did I miss a setting somewhere?
I found the answer: in 'configuration > themes' is a setting called 'order events by'. If you want to sort your events manually, choose 'ordering'. If you want a automatic selection by the date of the event, choose 'date'.
The manual ordering itself is done via the order column in 'events'.
I missed that setting because it wasn't there in an earlier version of event booking.
