Paypal payment fails - what is the best practice for admins? was created by intouchweb
If a membership Paypal payment fails due to issues at Paypal (eg screen timeout) , what is the best practice for admins?
Any thoughts?
I guess the admin should firstly confirm that no payment was actually processed/received through Paypal.
But what then? How can the admin prompt the member to make their payment?
The members status in this case shows as 'pending' but they can still login as the Joomla account creation was successful.
It also appears that in this case the membership period updates in the system even though payment has not been confirmed from Paypal ?
What would happen if the admin manually changed the status of the member in the backend to "Cancelled and Refunded" would that prompt the member to pay again when they login?
Any other suggestions of best practice in this scenario?

Hello Mark
1. In this case, admin does not have to do anything. Members still don't have an active subscription status anyway
2. If it's needed, admin can delete the subscription record. If admin wants, he can send an email to members and ask them to subscribe again
Regards,
Tuan

hi Tuan,
In my case, the membership period was added (even without receiving payment) and the user was moved to the member Joomla group as a member. Effectively it was a successful transaction without the payment. The only hint to the admin is that the payment status is pending and no invoice was issued.
I think the best action is to delete the membership record.

In case payment is failed, users should not be assigned to Joomla user group at all (are you configured it in Joomla groups plugin?)
His account could still be created if you allow it. If you only want account to be created for successfully payment, then set Only create user account when membership active/approved config option to Yes. When you do that, user account will only be created for successfully payment and it would solve your concern
