Event Record - Create Event Duration time was created by David Unwin
When we display our events on the website, we display the Start Time and End Time. What would be more useful for our customers would be to display the Start Date and Time and the Duration in EB upcoming events menus/modules
ie
Event XYZ
Location London
Start Date 1st October 2024 07:00
Duration 1hr
There is no standard field for this in EB.
So I want to create a custom field (Duration) with a format HH:MM
Then calculate Duration with ENDDATETIME - STARTDATETIME
My first issue is what Field type should I use, Time or SQL? The second is how to calculate this field.
The third is how to display the field in an EB menu or module?
I am not an expert coder, so I am just thinking is; Is this feasible or not???
Any advice or ideas would be really useful?

I don't think you need to create that field. The duration can be calculated if you enter both Event Date and Event End Date for the event
But to have it displayed, you will need to customize the code. Without code customization, it's not possible

Hi Tuan,
Thanks for the reply.
So my next question is, how and where would I place any code to calculate and display the duration of the event.
For example, if I use the EB module Upcoming events ( docs.joomdonation.com/eventsbooking/modules/upcoming-events ) to display my events, there is no option in the module that allows you to put some code to add the duration calculation and display it.
So where would I place the code and display the information in that module?
Kind regards
David

It depends on the layout you are using. Please send me the link to actual page on your site so that I can check to see what layout is being used and tell you the correct file

Hi Tuan,
Thank you for looking at this.
Go to cirenopenair.org.uk/
On the left-hand side of the page, you will see the events. See screenshot attached
In each case, we use mod_eb_events module.
Kind regards
David

Sorry David. Missed this post. Look like the layout was already customized, so it is not easy for me to know exactly what's the layout is using here
For this, better submit a support ticket sending us super user account of your site so that I can check it directly on your site and give you detailed instructions

Hi David,
I don't know if this is the same issue as you're dealing with and if you still need help, but I have not been able to find a way to display the start time of any event in the event list, so I literally add it in to the title of the event. For mine, it will show as "Event Name (1-4pm)" or "Event Name (9am-3pm)". You could change the name of the event to include the start time & duration, day of the week, date or whatever configuration you would like.
This doesn't look as professional, but it's also difficult for people to claim they didn't know what time the event ran when they registered for it!
