Add Additional charge/payment after Ticket price + Tax is calculated.

I think I already know the answer to my question, but I just wanted to check.
We are a charity organisation. Our events fund our operations.
When we sell tickets, we have to charge VAT/Sales tax. 
What we would like to do is allow people to donate and extra amount on top of the ticket price, if the user would like to do this.
Our first thought was to add a custom field with the option Fee Field = YES and let the user choose to add this amount or not.
However, this would not work as because the amount would be added to the price of the ticket and then the tax is calculated on ticket price + custom fee field.
Is there anyway that when the tax is calculated the amount in the custom fee field is not included in the calculation.
I don't think there is a way to do this at the moment in Event Booking, am I right?

Hi David

Yes, unfortunately, as of right now, it is not possible to exclude fees from certain fields to be excluded from tax charge
