Event Selection and Search - By date and range of dates

During our Events Season we run approximately 5-10 events per day over a 5 month season.
We have different categories of events also.
Our visitors can search for events by category, but what would be nice is the ability to search by events on a particular day or range of dates. 
i.e. What events are there on 1st of June or a range what events are running from 1st to 4th June.
I think  a nice feature would be to have a search by date or range of dates for events both by all or selected categories.
