Proper forms! was created by Kevin Morrison
I dont know who the brain child is that thought creating a custom field system where we are forced to create a hodgepodge of fields in one place that we then have to wade through is a joke at best! My wish list is to be able to create forms for each event independently. With the amount of custom fields I have to make that are specific to events with different options I am overwhelmed already and I am not even half way through creating the fields I need. Seriously questioning this purchase now!

I think that the original plan was to be able to create a field once and be able to use it across all events, which is nice to be able to do when you want a global field.

However, the custom forms list can certainly get REALLY long, especially when you have a lot of customization for your events and when you need to reorder new items to the top past old items (and sometimes old items that no longer are even needed but that you want to maintain for the sake of the registration records that registered for the event).

I think there is certainly room for improvement in this feature, whether by changing custom fields to a by-event setting (with the ability to copy between events in this case, please!), or by adding the ability to sort fields into categories some how. Being able to hide old fields would be nice too.

You hit a lot of good points James and yes long is an understatement at least for me. I have two different categories for the same event and each one includes about 25 custom fields and at least a dozen of those are conditional fields and only a couple of those custom fields can be used across both events.. Trying to keep this all straight is a nightmare with the way it currently setup and as I near the halfway point the list of what field is associated with which condition becomes a blur. There is also consideration for having about 6 different venues for the event with registration for each. At that point I will be looking to go back to DT Register as just the idea of having to setup all that with this format is not even going to be an option and I will refuse to use it! This setup is so over the top bizarre to me I am just setting here scratching my head asking what on earth the developer was thinking?
