Eshop sending invoices and new order alert

I setup SMTP email server for my Joomla site. Joomla can email users via the SMTP setup. Therefore SMTP sending for the site works. However I just processed a live first purchase on the site and I didn't receive the new order alert and an invoice also wasn't sent. How do I find out why this isn't working?

Yes, completed order and I received the paypal email advising of the transaction. I recevied one paypal email as the sender and one paypal email as the seller.

I have done some further tests. The joomla site email is working. If I change the status of an order the customer does receive an email advising of the status change... However there is still no new order alert email being received and there is still no initial invoice email being sent to the customer. Only emails for status change and only the emails from papal are being received.

Hello Aaron,

Can you please go to EShop -> System -> Configuration -> Mail tab and add a your Google Mail account there and test again?

I am suddenly having the same problem. This has been an issue several times throughout the years. All of a sudden the email invoice feature stops working. My client accepts Paypal payments, site is using latest Joomla and eshop, site uses php mailer which has been tested.
Customer will receive email if status has changed.
Admin DOES NOT receive email when new order is placed.
Customer DOES receive email from Paypal when order is paid for.
My email - andromeda133@gmail.com does not receive email when new order is placed.
I did get ONE this morning out of the 5 orders in the last 2 days. I cannot see any difference in status or order.
Have NO idea what is wrong.
No updates were done in the last few days so any updates cannot be blamed.
I have, in the past, changed order status in config and that seemed to "kick start" it again but not this time.
Any ideas as to why the new order invoices would suddenly stop working?
