Free Members Only Event with a submission field at registration was created by Chris Jarvis
Hello
I am hoping someone can help me work out how to get the following registration.
We are hosting a free members only event online where members can ask our board members questions.
We would like the option for members to submit any questions at the same time as they register for the event but the option to type in your question text is getting bypassed by the instant registration and I cannot figure out how to get around this.
We only want members to be able to register so I have set the event to be public but registration access only to be our members Access level - this works great
We also want the event to be free for members as it is a member service they already pay for through Membership Pro each year.
I have set the cost to be zero ($0.00) in the price fields - this works a little too good because as soon as you click the event and press register, it asks you to login and as soon as you do you are registered and your email confirmation is sent to you. The event rego fields are never available.
I have created a custom text field for only this event where a member could type in their question prior to registration and that field comes through on the confirmation email but because the registration is instant and auto-filled with the other fields with the member information - you don't get chance to type in this box.
I don't want to set a fee of $20 and then instantly offer members a $20 discount as this will look really bad from us as it needs to be totally free for members and I don't want any none members to be able to register.
I tried making the custom text box for the question input to be a mandatory field but that doesn't work.
I want the register (individual) button to show the registration page after login and default all the basic info into the fields, not charge the registrant but also show the text box for their questions so they can type that up for us before they confirm their registration to the event.
I hope I am making sense and that this is possible but I can't get it right just at the moment.
Thanks for any help or advice

Hi Chris
Base on your description, I think the issue happens because you set Reduce Registration Process config option to Yes
Please go to Events Booking -> Configuration, set Reduce Registration Process config option to No, then check it again. It should solve your issue

Sorry to come back to this forum thread but I have another question around it.
The setting change worked great but we have now launched the event and noticed that the registration page now says 'Please login to register' instead of having the usual 'Already Registered? Login Now!" style option.
I have attached a screenshot of what is showing.
Is there a way that we can have the login option on the registration page? Members have to sign in and are then dropped to their control panel main menu page by default and have to navigate their way back to the event and then register.
On other events when you click to register there are 2 options. One for members to sign in and stay on the registration page or another to create an account as they register.
These events are public events with public access and public registration and this event is a public event with members registration set so I know they are slightly different but keeping our members on the same page would be great if possible.
Thanks as always and hope this is possible in some way.
Sorry if I am missing a setting again but I have had a look

Hello Chris
Edit the event, set Registration Access to Public, then check it again. It should work as you want

Thanks Tuan
That allows anyone to register for the event.
We would like only those in our Members Access Level to be able to register.
When I make those changes I get the create an account option too.
I would like it to only offer the Existing User? Please Login option if possible.
Thank you

Hi Chris
Unfortunately, that's not possible. But normally, in the Please login to register for the event, the login text should be linkable (users can click on that link to login to continue registration)

That message is controlled by EB_LOGIN_TO_REGISTER language item, please make sure it contains [LOGIN_LINK] tag, something like:
Tuan
Code:
EB_LOGIN_TO_REGISTER="Please <a href=\"[LOGIN_LINK]\">login</a> to register for this event"

Thanks again Tuan
That's it! That's exactly what I needed!
I must have changed my original login message in Translations and removed the [LOGIN LINK] href sorry.
This looks and works perfect now I have added it in there.
Superb stuff!
When dealing with other companies in my world, asking a question for support is normally quite stressful because you normally don't get helped really.
But whenever I ask a question of JoomDonation support, I never stress because I just know that within a couple of hours max, you will answer it and give me more knowledge of your software than I had before.
Thank you so much Tuan - you're just a legend in Joomla stuff!
