Hide Custom Fields in Frontend. was created by Bill Van Vlack
Is there any way to hide certain Custom Fields in the front end (for the Subscriber), but not the back end (for the site manager)? We would like to use Custom Fields to manage the volunteer status of our members, but not allow them to change the assigned status. For example, when a member of the Board is changed, we'd like to remove that role from the 'Board' custom field, but not allow the members to 'self-assign' themselves a role.

Hi Derrick

Unfortunately, this feature is not available at the moment. I think it can be done by introducing an Access field to custom field management function. It is not difficult but I don't have time to work on it now.

Will add support for it in the next release (which should be in about 4 to 6 weeks).

Regards,

Tuan

In 'Extra' in the custom field setup, you can add

readonly=readonly

This makes it a permanent field that can't be edited, but unfortunately can't be edited from the admin screen either. (I used this for some legacy information which we wanted to keep on older members but not allow the user to change.)

You could also assign it a CSS class that makes it not visible in the front end.

A hidden 'admin' type field that can only be changed or viewed from the back-end would be a very useful feature. It would be good to be able to have some information on members that was not visible or editable by them, but still allow admin to access it.

Adding an access field to custom field should solve the issue, I think (default should be Public). If you want any custom fields to be view and manage able by admin, simply set Access Level to special

Will work on it with this direction

Any progress on this? I am having to write special programming to have backend only visibility and editing of custom fields.
